Goodbye DC (alternate title - "Packing is the Worst!")

Well, I finally said goodbye to DC after 5 1/2 great years. It was obviously very hard to leave DC, as it's a great place, and there are so many awesome people there (yes, I'm talking about you!), but I'm also psyched about my upcoming trip, so that makes it a bit easier. (Plus I'll be back soon, I promise).

Yesterday morning I re-discovered how much I hate moving. I was amazed to see how much stuff one can accumulate while living for 4 1/2 years in the same place. Definitely made me consider taking the 100 item challenge when I get back from my trip. At about 8 AM I realized I was in trouble (had to pick my dad up at BWI at 11:30), and started just frantically throwing stuff into the car. I finally made my escape 45 minutes late (sorry again to my roomies for the mess I left in the house in my rush out), picked up my dad, and headed up to PA just in time for the memorial service for his Aunt. It was a beautiful service, and afterwards I had the chance to meet and chat with some relatives I'd never met, which was very cool.

After that we crammed back into the car (and I definitely mean crammed, as I had been forced to move up the seats to accommodate all my junk) and started on the long trip to Massachusetts. I'd been sleeping very little the past few days because I'd been trying to cram as much as possible into my last few days in DC, so it was very nice to have my dad along to help with the driving, and let me catch a quick nap in shotgun. We got back a little after midnight, and I was very thankful to collapse in my bed at home. For those who like stats as much as I do, here's some info courtesy of Lois:
  • Total Distance: 512.52 miles
  • Moving Time: 9 hours, 58 min (Stopped Time: 45 min)
  • Avg Speed: 55.6 MPH

Now I'm back at home until Sunday trying to do all my final trip preparation, fit the contents of my DC life into my old bedroom, and visit college and high school friends. Should be a busy few days!

Adrian's Excellent Adventure - Starting Soon!

Well, blog posting has been a light (ie nonexistent) recently, but for good reason - I haven't started my trip yet! However, it's getting close - my flight to Costa Rica (where I will be doing one month of surfing / spanish school) is in under 2 weeks!

So, set up your Reader or iGoogle to monitor my blog, and the updates will start soon.
